The board said platform two. The train at platform two said somewhere else entirely — a name we couldn’t pronounce, going a direction we hadn’t considered. We boarded it anyway, because the coffee was already bought and the seats were already warm.
Trust the drift, not the timetable.
Three hours the schedule didn’t own
The wrong train climbed out of the valley through villages that don’t make it onto the kind of maps we don’t carry anyway. An old man across the aisle shared sunflower seeds and disagreed with everything we said, cheerfully, in a language we don’t speak.
We got off when the light looked right. That’s the whole method. The light looked right, so this was the stop.
The lesson we keep re-learning
A timetable is someone else’s plan for your day. It’s useful exactly up to the moment it isn’t — and past that moment, the drift knows things the schedule doesn’t. The wrong train has never once taken us to the wrong place.
