WHY WE CALL IT AWARA.

THE WORD · آوارہFRAME 01

Awara — آوارہ — is what an aunt calls you when you’ve been gone too long, when the neighbors have started asking, when the path everyone agreed on is still sitting there untaken. Wanderer. Drifter. The one without a plan.

It is not, historically, a compliment.

They meant it as a warning. We wear it as a badge.

Taking the word back

Every culture has a word for the one who won’t sit still, and every culture says it with the same half-worry, half-envy. We decided to stop apologizing for it. Print it on the chest. Stitch it into the neck tape. Say it in two scripts so nobody mistakes where it came from.

Reclaiming a word doesn’t erase its edge — it keeps the edge and changes who’s holding it.

Wandering on purpose

The distinction that matters isn’t between lost and found. It’s between drifting away from something and moving toward whatever’s next. Awara, the way we mean it, is the second one: direction without a fixed plan. A compass, not a map.

Day 002. Cleared.
